First-Hand Shoji Experiences

This place is a hidden gem. We enjoyed a private outdoor hot tub overlooking the side of a mountain forest. What made the experience even better, it started rain, which gave a hot/cool sensation. They seem to pride themselves on making sure the atmosphere is extremely calming.

Such a wonderful experience! Beautiful setting with Japanese bathhouse style high up on the mountain side. Service was very kind and we left fully relaxed and relieved. We learned of this place through word-of-mouth during our vacation, and it was well worth splurging on such a unique and luxurious spa day!

They have healing , magical hands here ! Had a wonderful massage therapist named Steve. I came in with back pain left without it. It's day 2 and still feel great. Husband had an incredible experience! Staff is unbelievably kind, courteous and professional. Hot tub private bath was perfect for a cold winter morning and what a view of the mountains ! Extremely pricey so won't be able to afford another spa day like this until next year. But it is definitely worth it. Note: don't bother with the massage chairs or chea pods as they call it- waste of money and was not relaxing. Go get a massage by the licensed and experienced masseuse and masseur.

The whole experience was extremely lovely. Start with a shower, into the sauna as we waited, to the private hot tub, to the massage.I did have an issue post-massage but I understand everyone's bodies are different.

Overall our experience was great. The staff was welcoming and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Me and my fiance booked one of the packages that included the massage chairs. While the chairs are adjustable, it's definitely best suited for someone around 5 ft 7 in tall. Overall we feel that the chairs were not very effective at massaging. We plan to go back, but next time we'll book a hand massage instead of the chair.

Definitely a must if you have the time and need a short disconnect and relaxation day!
My husband and I decided to reward ourselves with a visit to Shoji spa and it was such a perfect day! The soaking tubs overlooking the woods were so peaceful, quiet, and relaxing- just what we needed. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco as well. I was going to go to sauna too, but got too relaxed in the tub- I didn’t want to leave haha. So close to town, yet feels like you are in the woods far far away. I already mentioned this place to my out pf state clients, who are moving to the area.

My husband and l decided to travel to go to Shoji to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. We called in advance, since the net claimed there were no spots to RSVP. We quickly were able to get our package: The Michi Package. This included 1 hour at the outdoor baths, 1 hour chea massage, and 30 minutes in the savasauna room. We also were allowed access to the sauna if we wanted to use it.Getting to the location was rather easy direction-wise. Our appointment was for 12:15, so they asked that we get there for noon. The roads leading up to the spa were a little challenging when cars were going the opposite direction. Once there, we had some difficulties getting a parking space, but did manage to get one. Immediately, you notice some Japanese aethetics in the buildings. Being someone who's been to Japan before, I think they did an ok job at trying to tackle a Japanese aesthetic. I personally would've liked to see a bit more theming (koi pond, bonsais, small temple would be nice touches). Upon checking in, we had to fill out some paperwork. They explained how things were going to go. Everyone working there was incredibly helpful and nice. I immediately took a shower and changed into the robe and slippers provided. As comfortable as the robe was, I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't an actual yukata (or a robe themed to feel Japanese). The slippers provided were nice, because they were waterproof; however, I was a little disappointed that they were weren't actual Japanese indoor/outdoor shoes provided. I think that would give a really nice touch. The changing area/restroom was incredibly clean and well themed. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash smelled amazing. After getting changed, we were led to our private bath house. It was really nice. Simple theming, but perfect. Definitely perfect for relaxing. I loved the wind chimes. The hot tub itself was amazing. Perfect temperature and deep. Just how I like it. Complimentary water was provided to drink. You could order other beverages if you wanted to.After our soak, it was time for the massage. I was quite interested to try out the chea massage chair. Designed by doctors, this chair is supposed to give you a massage based on what your body needs. The room for the chea was really incredibly. Perfect ambience, nice, relaxing music, and all around calming and quiet. We were introduced to a lady to help us with the chea massage. She was able to get us calibrated in the chea. I don't know if I was calibrated properly or not, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the chea massage. Mainly because I didn't enjoy my head being grabbed and moved consistently. I personally would've enjoyed the chea to hit harder in areas. I felt like it hit the mark for a perfect massage. Definitely will use a human next time. You just can't replace what humans can do (massage-wise) with a robotic chair. I'm not saying that the chea is bad, but it didn't fully appeal to me.After the massage was the savasauna room and I absolutely loved it. The heated tatami mats with the weighted blanket felt amazing and was so calming. 30 minutes is the perfect amount of time for this experience. After the experience we were led back to the check in area. We were told we could use the sauna and cold showers of we wanted or we could check out there. I decided to get a peek of the sauna and it seemed really nice. Ended up finishing my time with a shower and check out. It was a very pleasant experience and I wouldn't mind trying a different package next time.

I read many mixed reviews before heading to Shoji. First, this was a wonderful experience. The soak was very relaxing. Tub 5 was at the top, and contrary to what I read, I didn’t think the noise level was bad at all. It was near the sauna and cold showers, which was nice in the middle of the soak. The entire facility is very clean. The savasana was relaxing, but didn’t feel like anything too special. The shower in the locker room afterwards was lovely, but the changing rooms and facility were lacking anything special. Although I splurged, I’m not sure that I felt like the experience was worth the cost. It definitely was enjoyable, but very pricey.

It was a peaceful and pretty property. We booked an hour in the hot tub. Lovely. And then did massage chairs. Once we were properly adjusted, it was an hour of bliss. I would have liked to dial back a little bit of the pressure on my legs but that's ok. It was so worth it. I zoned out for sure! Then our meditation and nap ... That was a surprise for us-- better than we expected. It was r very relaxing. We will be back!

We enjoyed our time at Shoji very much, and found it very relaxing. I personally did not do the massage chair (wife loved it) - because I have bad experiences with mechanical massages. The spa was my favorite part. Secluded, quiet, and peaceful. The garden and landscaping was unbelievable. All of the staff was very friendly and masked up, which was appreciated. It was not nearly as expensive as you might think for a truly unique experience. I would return here regularly if I lived closer. Thank you!

This is one of the best and the closest authentic style of a Asian culture of a Asian spa for rejuvenation relaxation and a great place to rekindle things with your loved one. To get away from life itself this brings you back to nature like no other spa place I have come across. You must take a visit see for yourself whether for a day or weekend and especially at one of their private rooms you will come back a very new person with clarity and focus.

I booked my sister and her fiancee a hot tub soak and massages. The hot tub was a unique experience that they were excited for. They enjoyed the shower and privacy, however after about 30-40 minutes in the tub they got an electrical shock a couple times and got out. The employees claimed that maybe an animal had gotten under it and apologized then told them to wait for 30 minutes till their massages and gave them a cup of water. I gave the review 2 stars because they both really enjoyed their massages but we're shaken because of what happened in the tub. After the massages they even bought a Tshirt as a souvenir. When they told me I was very upset because this was not a cheap gift, they missed out on the the full time in the tub and were upset about being shocked. The spa did nothing to compensate for the bad experience, not even give them a free Tshirt. I understand that these things can unfortunately happen but they should have done something to make the situation right....Update: The spa did contact me and apologize again for what happened, they didn't know about the length of the bad experience. They have rectified the problem and compensated perfectly. I have updated to a 4 star because although they had a bad moment it was overall a great experience.

Shoji Spa is a one of a kind gem located just outside of Asheville proper. A delightfully peaceful oasis, conveniently tucked in to the mountains. The staff was warm, gentle, and friendly. The hot tub was private, but opened up on the side to a beautiful wooded view. Don't let a chance of rain deter you, it actually felt incredible to sip my hot tea and feel the light rain while in the tub. Next I visited the massage chair. Oh my, the massage chair! I have not been that relaxed in a 3 hour timeframe in many years. I will definitely be gifting this experience to others and be returning myself.

After a fabulous jet powered soak in a private hot tub in the trees, (with a lovely tea and rice cookies served) cooling off in between with cold rain shower, a homemade orange blossom coconut scrub, followed by a phenomenal 60 min deep tissue massage (mine was by Alex- who was phenomenal, and should get a raise! - Jimmy had Ashley and he said she was perfect!. ) The BEST part of our vacation! Relaxing, peaceful, spa experience facing the private Blue Ridge Parkway Forest. The facility was clean, calm, and super professional providing all the amenities you needed to enjoy a remote spa experience with ease and comfort. We went in July, and the hot tub experience was relaxing and perfect. We got in and out as much as we wanted during our time and had full access to use any of the other facilities to include the sauna, outdoor showers to cool off, or any of the decks to lounge and meditate. After we recieced massages in a cool relaxing atmosphere in the top of the facility.Just a heads up, this place is close to Asheville but it feels remote and the drive up the mountain to get there is exactly that...a drive up a mountain. It might get a little tricky at points but it's worth it!We will be coming back!

Nice relaxing visit. We felt a bit awkward in the outdoor shower doing the exfoliation scrub, but it was still fun. You just have to hold a short chain to get the water to run which is difficult it you are short, and the oily salt scrub adds a level of difficulty.Nothing that can't be overcome with a sense of humor.

Absolutely one of the best massages I’ve ever had in my life, thank you Monica! I brought my girlfriend, my brother and his wife. All who said the same, BEST massage! I absolutely recommend this place. Very cool and Zen ambience. We did the package which included the hot tub for an hour and massage for an hour. Unfortunately they were doing some noisy work next to us which was a little disturbing but management made it right and I truly appreciate everyone there. Enjoyed Shoji Spa very much! Only item of concern was the private tub soak was not very private as another couple just opened the door and tried to get in the same private outdoor tub as us. When we told them it was private they left and closed the door. So not sure if better directions for other visitors need to be provided or if better monitoring of hot tub areas need to be adjusted. Other than this everything was great. Thank you.

This was such an ejection out of the matrix. Staff greeted us with our totes that includes our robes, sandals & a towel. We were shown to the bathroom where we were required prior to our soak. Next we were shown how to access our private bath house. We went at the end of March & the temp was about 50 which I was weary of. Turns out, the colder weather was absolutely perfect. There's no way I'd do that in the warmer months. We soaked for 1 hour. The opening to nature was everything. Afterwards we did the massage chairs which again, I was weary of. But OMG. There are few times I've had such deep sleep & relaxation & this was one of those times. They offer an eye mask & ear plugs but we didn't need them. There was another couple who came in while we were there but I have no clue when they came. I was that relaxed. Afterwards, we laid on this bed where it was warmed. We laid under this weighted blanket and there was some sort of vibrating massage thing. We turned that off bc it really didn't do much. Heads up, it's very windy on the drive up the mountain & the road is really only meant for 1 car. Also, parking can be a bit of hassle but trust, once you're in there it's ALL worth it.
