We are an unpretentious and unique destination spa nestled on a mountainside minutes from the vibrancy of downtown Asheville. Along with traditional Japanese bathing and soaking, in completely private outdoor salt tubs, guests enjoy spa-style showers, first-class massage therapy, nature setting and sounds, locally sourced spa products – including CBD salves, local, handcrafted signature soaps, apparel, totes and more. Guests don a Japanese Yukata (cotton robe) and sandals before retiring to their private hot tub overlooking the National Forest.
Treetop Sauna
Enjoy Shoji’s newest hot box, a sophisticated 20-minute sauna experience for deep detox and rehabilitation. After sweating out toxins, refresh on the outside Treetop deck for another 20 minutes of renewal. This medical sauna offers a full spectrum of wavelengths: near, mid, and far infrared. A full spectrum heater is important because each spectrum of infrared waves provides different levels of skin penetration and light therapy. Our Sauna is created with Natural Red Cedar for its medicinal and structural qualities. Natural Red Cedar is also known for its astringent properties, meaning it helps cleanse your skin, which enhances the already powerful detoxification benefits. When you step into our Natural Red Cedar sauna you will feel and smell the powerful natural wood aromas, leaving your skin feeling tightened and refreshed.
An advantage of our Rapid Internal Heating System is that it can increase your endurance and strengthen your immune system. While other saunas may take 10 – 15 minutes to work up a sweat, when you step into our sauna, you will begin to sweat almost immediately. A rapidly heating sauna simulates the effect of working out because it increases your internal body temperature at a similar rate. Not only does this increase your heat tolerance, which leads to improved athletic performance, it also stimulates your immune system, which can make it better at fighting off infections and disease. The Savasana Room
Our Savasana Room is where you are treated to a deep, whole body experience from natural therapies. The perfect, restful conclusion to a sequence of services with us. Rest and repose on tatami mats that deliver “far-infrared” heat deep into the body to help relieve stiffness and joint pain all while easing you into a deeper state of relaxation. The embedded gem stones emit negative ions providing an additional layer of meditation and calm. Weighted blankets, neck and knee bolsters, meditation chairs and more all work together to create that deep state of rest and renewal.

My husband and I went here on our honeymoon to do the Nihon for two. It was an amazing experience. We did a tub soak and then got massages. They brought us tea and checked in on us. The staff was amazing. The views were stunning! It is literally in the middle of the woods but it’s perfect. I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Amanda and Marta did our massages and they were so thorough and kind. Definitely recommend Shoji!

The front desk people were very friendly, although I wish they would’ve showed us how to use the showers and maybe take each group in privately, but that may be just the way they do things. Enjoyed the sauna, a cold shower, and soaking in the tub. Our massage therapists were fantastic!! I’ve had a lot of massages in my life.. and just amazing! I wish we could’ve stayed on the property! I highly recommend this place for a pampering getaway!

We had a wonderful time at Shoji. It was tranquil and beautiful. The staff treat you like royalty. Facilities are clean and there are thoughtful touches all throughout, including the (slightly scary and steep) way up the hill.I was a little nervous based on some of the reviews. Some comments about the locker room aren’t wrong. It’s very small but I came early to my appointment and had no issues. Although, the shower was too fancy and confusing to use at first! I had a lovely experience and I’m sure you will too!

Great solo experience. I only did a 90 minute hot tub soak and a savasana session but it was so relaxing and I left the spa feeling great. 90 minutes was perfect for the hot tub soak and ordering the herbal tea and Japanese crackers made the experience even better. The savasana session was so peaceful that I fell asleep within minutes. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to relax for a few hours.

Loved our full day at the spa. The soaking tubs were the perfect way to begin before the 60 min massage. Eric and Becca did an amazing job of getting the knots out of tights muscles. The infrared heating pads and quiet time were the perfect transition to the infrared tree top sauna and lounge area. The weather was amazing! The final Himalayan salt scrub session under the trees was the best finale and left us super soft and truly relaxed. Highly recommend!

We stayed in the House of Wind in mid-June. Room was perfectly appointed with just enjoy supplies to be comfy - tea, oatmeal, the spa’s signature scented soap, shampoo, etc. Views from the room were beautiful, and it was exceptionally quiet at night. Staff were absolutely lovely, and went above and beyond! Only note is that the stairs to the room were steep and may be difficult for some to climb. Just an FYI, it did not impact our experience, and we would return in a heartbeat. Easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and about 15 minutes by car from downtown Asheville. Thanks, Shoji!

Quiet is required here so it's a special place rain or shine. Saunas available before and after very hot tubs under canopy of trees and bamboo. BEAUTUFUL natural surroundings. Tea served. Alternate Between cold shower and hot tub. An Asheville must do. The 1.15 hour soak is enough. A new beginning.

The setting for the spa is wonderful, nestled in the trees and one with the outdoors. Every part felt lovely (humid sauna, pool soak, infrared sauna) but we didn’t quite know what to expect and wish we had had a little more of an “itinerary” through the experiences or more explanation from the staff. If you're in the mood for just a hot tub soak, you'll be provided with a totally-enclosed (by physical and beautiful natural barriers) and private hot tub patio which sits on the mountain side. Provides a super serene, peaceful, and relaxing setting for an awesome soak. Hot/cold and sauna treatments are also provided right nearby.At our last visit, we booked a 1-hour massage, where I upgraded to a deep-tissue massage for a small fee. Steve gave me *literally* the best massage of my life. I always ask for super deep pressure, and I don't know how his hands didn't start cramping, but he was the first person to really dig into ALL of the deepest pressure points I've accumulated through work. For the past week, my back has felt better than it has for many years. We will 1000% be back again. Thank you guys so much!!

Very cool experience! We did an hour tub soak with tea and the exfoliating scrub. The tea was great and it was very cool to have a private tub area outdoors. Definitely get the exfoliating scrub! I do scrubs at home but this one made my skin feel extra soft.Keep in mind, the tubs are outdoors so there were bugs around.

Everyone, you all have to try this place/spa. An hour in your private hot tub with champagne, overlooking the treetops with a view of the Blue Ridge mountain is spectacular. Then, off to an hour couple's massage. The person who gave me my massage was fantastic. Very knowledgeable in the art of massage.

This place is such a gem. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We arrived about 20 minutes late, and they arranged our services so we could enjoy everything as planned. That massage chair had both of us in heaven. Lovely!! The only thing I didn’t like about my experience was there only being one restroom in the main lobby. There was a bit of a wait, and you feel rushed while going.

It is lovely… and I would have given three if it wasn’t for the absolutely amazing massage we got.A few notes.Pay close attention to the website when they say to not bring anything with you. There is NOWHERE to put your belongings. They provide a bag for you to carry your items with you. Which means if you want to use the sauna your things come in with you.For the price we were paying I was expecting a little nicer shower/changing room area. Very little space to change and the showers aren’t really that private. (Only 2)The soak is beautiful and worth it. Careful where they place you if you enjoy being n*de. Where we were was in direct eyeshot of the forest balcony, which was thankfully not in use because of the cold.We didn’t have the energy to say something, but our tub had scum all around the edges and a few times I pulled someone else’s hair off of me…even though they say they clean the tubs.

Amazing relaxation with stunning views in the mountains! Went for a 90 minute hot tub session with friends and highly recommend. Very luxurious experience with well thought out robes and sandals upon arrival. We had delicious tea while hot tubbing in a secluded area overlooking the beautiful mountains. We also were able to enjoy the sauna and outdoor fire pit owner and even met the owner who built the spa 20 years ago! The only area for improvement is availability of gender inclusive spaces. Surprising that they had hair ties only in the women-identifying locker room and not mens. Still highly recommend!
